How Bayern Munich looks after its pro turf
Five home matches in April alone: Few other pitches are subject to as much wear and tear as the world-famous sward in the Allianz Arena. It is particularly important that the turf in the stadium is back on top form ahead of the return leg of the elite soccer tie against Manchester City Wednesday evening. Optimum turf in the Allianz Arena
When the players of Bayern Munich take to the pitch against Manchester City in the Allianz Arena, the images will go round the world. Other activities include improving damaged parts of the turf and, depending on the need, scarification, aeration, reseeding, and fertilization. Precise surgical procedure
Ambitious amateur gardeners might be interested to know that on non-match days the grass is cut to a height of 25-26 millimeters, with a cut height of 24 millimeters on match day itself. To ensure the grass has the proper density, the greenkeepers mow it three to four times a week. In principle, however, it is always mowed before a match day and again on the match day itself. Generally Bayern’s greenkeepers have finished with the grass in the Allianz Arena after three to four hours.
Work on the “hallowed turf” can be compared to a precise surgical procedure.
